ISPO Textrends forum, the best platform for performance textiles by manufacturers, designers, and product managers, held at the recent ISPO Munich expo, international sports business tradefair, from February 5 to 8, 2017, showed the latest sports fibres at the expo. Ulrike Arlt, textiles expert for the specialised newspaper SAZ, presented the fibres.

Hybrid fibres, which are the combinations of wool with polymides or Tencel fibre with polymides, were presented at the expo. These help in temperature control for sportspeople. Many garments have a warming part in the body section and a cooling function in the arms. These combinations are mostly present in the base layers which touch the skin.

Natural fibres, that increase comfort during winter, were also part of the show. As is the case with merino wool, natural fibres are particularly popular in winter. In addition to new natural fibres such as Tencel and Hapok that comes from an African tree, silk and cotton remain relevant.

Softshell jackets which use technology and in updated versions were presented at the expo. Also lighter fibres that are highly elastic and can support reflective prints were also part of the expo.

Detox fibres like cashmere and wool which are recycled from PET bottles and old fishing nets and are PFC-free and water-resistant were also shown at the tradefair. (GK)
