Coimbatore-based Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF) has set up the ITF Leadership Academy with an aim to impart robust leadership qualities among the employees of its member organisations. The Academy has launched three different courses for three different categories of executives—general managers, middle-level managers, supervisors—in textile mills.

For the academy, ITF has created a world class infrastructure in PSG-STEP at PSG iTECH Campus. The institute was inaugurated by Shiv Khera, well-known author, business consultant and global thought leader.

Of the 650 member companies of ITF, 51 textile mills have joined as partner for the academy. The service will be expanded to more mills after a year. “We want to build the culture of employee happiness, which will in turn create a high-performance climate in our member mills to achieve excellence in manufacturing,” ITF said in a press release.

“Today’s businesses are facing lot of challenges as well as opportunities. Several disruptions are happening in all parts of business. In such a situation, every organisation needs to adapt to the changing needs quickly. ?For any organisation, main strength lies with its core executives’ ability to respond to change. It is here that the ITF Leadership Academy, with continuous training, is going to equip individual managers in various member organisations with all pillars of leadership, including continuous motivation, new techniques, and mind refreshment, to enable them to always excel in working environment,” the release added.

From July 2019, the Academy has launched a programme for middle-level managers, under which each participating employee will attend one full day course per month for one year. Every month, 12 different topics will be covered by six trainers from Chennai and Bangalore.

The topic ‘team spirit’ will dwell on development of team spirit and team managing skills, understanding importance of work ethics, and spreading optimism and creating happy climate within the team to boost productivity with quality.

The topic ‘will to change’ will focus on developing a will to change and cope with new everyday challenges, self-analysis and identifying the leader within through interesting activities, and learning problem solving skills.

‘Effective communication’ will enable participants to learn to: deal with different / difficult people, be a good listener and good communicator, and handle conflicts and conflict resolution.

Likewise, ‘productivity’ will help participating employees to develop emotional intelligence to cope with work stress. It will also help them learn to appreciate creativity and innovation, while also understanding the importance of data collection, documentation, outcome assessment and benchmarking to set and achieve targets.
