J K Jute Mill at Kanpur in the state of Uttar Pradesh has temporarily wrapped up its weaving and binding units on account of falling production rates. A month ago, all employees' unions of the factory went on partial work boycott that has led to the current factory's turmoil.

The mill workers demand includes gratuity funds and permanent jobs for temporary employees.

This close down of two units of the mill will impact around 600 employees, however, Mr. B C Boradia, General Manager of the mill cited, the workers' partial work boycott as a reason for this temporary closure.

Since past few months, the mill has been facing steep plunge in jute production, which has slipped down to 12 tons from 70 tons a day. The factory management had already reduced workers' work shifts to two from three.
