A proposal for launching the e-commerce portal for khadi products has already been submitted to the ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) by KVIC.
“Next month it will be launched. We have completed all the work related with it such as preparation of the rate chart, photographs of products, godown, courier agreement and payment channels,” VK Saxena, chairman of KVIC, told a news agency.
“We have to increase sales. We are taking several steps in this direction like in the areas of further improving the standards, quality, designs and marketing skills of spinners and weavers,” added Saxena.
KVIC also plans to open an export cell to improve exports of khadi items in various international markets. The association wants to make khadi an international brand and will start direct exports of the product to various countries through the upcoming cell. There is a huge demand for khadi items in the US and UK markets.
The commission was selling products through its own outlets until now and is in the process of distributing sixteen franchises in Goa, Maharashtra and NCR.
Khadi products sales recorded an increase of 29 per cent last year to touch Rs 1,510 crore and have already jumped by 50 per cent in the first 2 quarters of the current fiscal. (KD)
