Macedonia determines minimum wage for textile workers

Macedonia, a country located in the central Balkan Peninsula in southeast Europe, has determined minimum wage for workers, including those in the textile industry.
It is for the first time that the representatives of trade unions, employers and the Government agreed on minimum wage since the country became Independent in 1991.
The minimum national monthly net wage has been set at Macedonia Denar (MKD) 8,050 (about Euro 130) and the gross wage at MKD 12,256.
The decision is expected to benefit nearly 65,000 workers in the country, majority of them belonging to the textile and leather industry, Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said. He added that the minimum wage would help in lowering poverty rate and improving living standard of workers.
The Minimum Wage Act is likely to be passed by end-2011 and will become effective from next year.
