With the rapid development of Chinas economy and new opportunities after the entry of Latvia to EU, China-Latvia trade and investment will achieve further improvement and development in 2005 with the support of Chinas "Going Global" strategy and further integration of Latvia market into EU market.
According to statistics of Chinas Customs, in the first quarter in 2005, imports and exports between China and Latvia amounted to US$47.77 million. Of which exports were US$46.04 million, up by 16.3% compared with the same period of last year, imports were US$1.73 million, down by 85.3%. It is predicted that China's exports to Latvia will maintain increasing, some competitive enterprises of China will expand its business in Latvia market. China-Latvia trade will present a better development prospect.
China Institute for Reform and Development (CIRD) was jointly initiated by the former State Commission for Restructuring the Economic System and the Hainan Provincial Government on November 1, 1991, with equity investments from dozens of large enterprises including Shanghai Bao-steel Corporation, China First Auto Works, Shanghai Petrochemical Co, etc.
With its network-based, internationalized and independent operations, the institute mainly conducts research on reform policy and transitional economies while providing training, consulting and conferencing services.
