Taiwanese cotton imports registered 15,000 tons in October, up 53.2 percent year on year, but imports of US cotton dropped 22.8 percent year on year.
In recent months, as supply of US cotton exports is limited, US cotton dominance in Taiwan cotton import market has been gradually replaced by Indian and Brazilian cotton.
The textile production index in Taiwan was 80.17 in November, down 9.4 percent from the same period last year and the second lowest level in history.
The index has mainly fallen, due to high cost, weak foreign demand and fibre production in the doldrums. The cumulative level from January to November 2011 fell 20 percent year on year.
