Assamese mekhela sador designer Sanjukta Dutta has unveiled a new collection that reflects various colours of India.

The new collection under the brand “Sanjukta's - Tradition Redesigned” is a unique combination of traditional designs of different parts of the country. The traditional Assamese mekhela sador has been beautified by incorporating Rajasthani, Kashmiri and other traditions.

The new collection has mirror work and intricate designs of bandhani from Rajasthan, batik prints from West Bengal, and minute designs of ari from Kashmir.

The innovative collection is not only a blend of traditional motifs, but also a mix of different fabrics and contrasting colours.

Sanjukta Dutta has used chiffon fabric for bandhani and mirror work, while she chose muga and mulberry silks for ari and batik prints.

The designer has also experimented with digital prints on the mekhela sador. Using the digital printing technology, she has created images of Radha and Krishna and tribal men and women on mekhela sador.

The digital prints give a new look to the latest collection of Sanjukta's mekhela sadors.

Mekhela sador is the traditional Assamese dress worn by women. It has two main pieces of cloth that are draped around the body.
