Representatives of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) will meet Dr. Asim Hussain, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, to discuss and try to find an amicable solution to the issue of gas supply to textile industry in the country.

The meeting, which was to take place two days earlier, has been rescheduled to January 20, 2012.

The suspension of gas supply to textile industries in Pakistan since December 25 last year by Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has led to a reduction in production shifts and large number of job cuts.

APTMA estimates US$ 2 billion loss in exports due to the current energy crisis.

Last fiscal (July 2010-June 2011), Pakistan's textile industry earned a record US$ 14 billion in exports, as President Asif Ali Zardari took personal interest to ensure uninterrupted supply of gas to the country's textile industry, even during the winter months of January and February.
