Investments in Taiwan's textile industry surge in 2011

Investments in Taiwan's textile industry rose sharply to NT$ 22.251 billion in 2011. Of these, a major chunk of NT$ 15.5 billion was in the industrial textile products segment, which showed a rise of more than 3 times over previous year's new investment of NT 5.161 billion in the same segment, according to statistics of Industrial Development Bureau.

The surge in private investments, to an extent, can be attributed to Government's efforts to invite investment in the country.

All investments in the textile sector were individually less than NT$ 200 million.

Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has compiled a separate data for individual investments of over NT$ 200 million, which are considered large private investment.

In 2011, Taiwan attracted NT$ 1.119 trillion in large private investments. These included an investment of NT$ 46.9 billion from Taiwanese enterprises operating in foreign countries and another NT$ 9.532 billion from overseas companies.

All the private investment figures are a record high and the total investment has surpassed the target of NT$ 1.1 trillion set for the year.

For 2012, MOEA has again set a goal of attracting NT$ 1.1 trillion in large private investments.
