More than 6,000 jobs have been lost in recent years in the textile industry of Spanish autonomous region of Castilla La Mancha, according to Francisco Fernandez Villodre, Regional Secretary of the Federation of Textile Leather and Allied Chemical Industries.
Mr. Villodre said the textile sector in the region once provided employment to about 10,000 people and the number of workers have now reduced to less than 4,000.
He added that the loss of employment in the region's textile sector is more than the national average.
He was speaking at the two-day State Council of the Federation held in Toledo. The Council is the highest governing body of the Federation and it took stock of difficult situation facing the textile and other sectors and set the strategy for the coming year.
Joaquim Gonzalez, Secretary General of Federation, said unemployment is the greatest problem that is currently looming on the textile sector and a change in mode of production is necessary to protect the industry and for economic growth.
