On 31 January that time will have come round again: Munich Fabric Start will kick off the trade fair season for summer 2013. For three days the national and international textile industry will meet again at the Munich M,O,C, and adjacent Zenith Hall to “sound out” the fashion forerunners. Due to its supra-regional importance and strategic timing Munich Fabric Start is considered an early indicator for up-and-coming trends.

Approximately 800 exhibitors from 36 countries, including almost 60 new exhibitors such as Testa, Spectrum Industries, Mario Belluci and Leggiuno, ensure sufficient creative input here.

Munich Fabric Start has, however, not only become a “must-go event” on the trade fair agenda in terms of its trend previews. One of its biggest strengths is its visionary approach. After all, the renewed optimism of the past business year must not mislead us: over the coming years it will be more important than ever before to meet new challenges. Scarce raw materials, lacking production capacities in the Far East and the emergence of new markets all require long-term rethinking.

Those wanting to compete on a global market level need innovative solutions today. With the help of high-caliber trend lectures and panel discussions Munich Fabric Start will point to real ways into the textile future.

With its primary colour Lemon Tonic the overriding FLIRT theme will translate into easy-to-grasp and inspiring looks. It runs through the entire premises like a “yellow thread”. Mediterranean joie de vivre blends with the idyll of 20th century America – from the 40s to the 90s. High-tech and ethnic flair come together here in the form of inventive craftsmanship.

The futurist world of architecture and design look nostalgic and “green” wherever you look. Also following on from this summer is the trend towards more feeling; things are becoming more sensual and optimistic.

The longing for things simple, genuine and natural by no means contradicts that sense of scientific curiosity in discovering new things. Contrasts are very much “en vogue” this season. The austere and the fragile, the airy and the constructed forge alliances here just as often as elegance and sportiness do. It is the familiar shapes, patterns and materials from the various decades of the past century that are combined and transformed into today's context. Flirt (ing) means admitting to the moment.

The Foyer between Halls 1 and 2 houses the Colourforum making reference to the various colour and trend themes of our colour card. This time the Foyer (Hall 3) is also home to the trend agency Stylesight with its Lounge.

The most recently added area Trendlab with renowned publishing houses and trend agencies including Mudpie, Trend Union, Peclers Paris and View, can be found at its former location in the entrance concourse of Hall 3. In room K 0 the Association of German Fashion and Textile Designers (VDMD) will provide trendbriefings. New in room K2, just opposite VDMD, is Avery Dennison Central Europe GmbH and their Lounge.
