Ethiopia to host textile & apparel expo in March 2012

Ethipian International Textile & Apparel Expo will be held in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia, from March 8 to March 11, 2012, the Textile Industry Development Institute (TIDI) has announced.
Sileshi Lemma, General Director of TIDI, said the expo would provide an opportunity to present and promote Ethiopian textile items to international markets.
The expo would include an exhibition, symposium, design competition and a site tour.
Over 130 raw material suppliers, textile producers, fashion designers and other textile industry stakeholders, along with overseas investors are expected to participate in the event, which would showcase several textile items including apparels, Sileshi said.
The Institute official said such events greatly aid in creation of an integrated market chain, and provide a common platform to facilitate direct communication between producers and consumers.
He explained that the expo will be a great opportunity for both domestic and foreign entrepreneurs to develop market links and expand their business network.
Ethiopia's textile and garment industry contributed over US$ 23 million to the country's overall earnings during 2010 and around US$ 62.2 million during 2011.
In recent times, several domestic as well as overseas investors have invested in Ethiopian textile industry, which includes over eight middle and high level firms, and several small scale enterprises.
