Following an increase in production costs in the last two years and loss of competitiveness in global markets, it is widely expected that the traditional textile and apparel sector may move towards manufacturing of industrial textiles.

According to the China Industrial Textile Association, output of industrial textiles increased rapidly in 2011 and the growth rate is expected to exceed double digits in 2012.

At present, China's traditional textile and garment production is facing challenges of resources and environmental factors, as well as competition of low-cost advantage from other developing countries.

So to open up new application areas and developed industrial textiles are important ways for restructuring, transformation and upgrading of China's textile industry and is also one of the important measures for China's textile industry to retain its position in global markets.

Although currently the data for industrial textiles output in 2011 is not available, the Association expects that industry situation is still optimistic in 2012. The dependence of industrial textiles on foreign trade is relatively low.

Currently exports of industrial textiles account for less than 20 percent of production, so industrial textiles are not vulnerable to world economic fluctuations in 2012, says the textile body.
