'We plan to focus on R&D' – Shantanu, LNJ Bhilwara Group

He wants BMD to be known as an automobile ancilliary company and wants to change the mindset of those working in the company with regards to commitment on delivering quality. He wants to shift the focus of the company from manufacturing to product development since he believes that manufacturing companies have an inherent bias towards managing costs and efficiencies as opposed to quality.

“We also keep a close eye on developments in the textile industry in the US and the European region. After all new trends in this region will always show up in India, a few months or years down the line. We believe in being ready for these trends. My father and myself along with our senior officials attend global conferences on a regular basis to keep ourselves updated on the latest trends”, he explains.

Shantanu has decided to diversify into renewable energy. Major commitments have already been made in setting up wind power plants in Maharashtra, and two hydro electric projects in Himachal Pradesh. Sufficient ground work has been done in setting up solar farms in Rajasthan for which decisions for investment will be made when the time is right. Shantanu expects to set up at least 100 MW of renewable energy generating plants within the next four years. This will be just the beginning.

The group companies have planted lakhs of trees in and around its projects. For providing quality health facilities to its employees and for the overall welfare of communities, the group has established fully equipped primary health centers at many of its plant sites. The group companies are always looking at opportunities to contribute in the infrastructure of the project areas.

Shantanu's mantra for success – he says, “The ability to change is very important for a business to succeed in the environment that we operate in. In the same vein, the same also applies to the success of BMD in the next 2-3 years. We cannot be tied up to our past. This is something that applies to everyone in the hierarchy whether in the top, middle or lower management cadres.
