Eight designers, including three from the Philippines, showcased their latest collections at the first ever Islamic Fashion Festival held in the Southeast Asian nation of Philippines.

The Islamic Fashion Festival is being held annually, since it was first held in Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur in 2006, with an aim to promote understanding and tolerance of Islam through the fashion industry.

The event started with display of Malaysian fashion designer Tom Abang Saufi's collection titled “Love”. Inspired by the theme of love, her collection featured peonies and oriental hues.

It consisted of a range of head wraps in bright blue, red, green, orange and pink colours, and featured a headgear and a veil style.

JC Buendia, who has dressed up two Philippines heads of state, showcased his royal “First Lady” collection that was inspired by style icons like Princess Diana and Jackie Kennedy.

The apparels were in white, silver and metallic black and gave a sophisticated touch to the collection. There were also orchids made from the same fabrics, which were used as corsages to give an Asian feel.

However, the costume that attracted the most was a pearl-encrusted coat dress reflecting the richness of the sea.

Indonesian designer Milo Migliavacca's collection showcased animal prints on Indonesian batik, inspired by Hollywood film “Avatar”. His display included fine fabrics that were decorated with minute hand embroidery and beading work to give an elegant feel.

Menswear brand Ya Jameel Homme, which is soon opening an outlet in Manila, presented a collection taking inspiration from various Islamic countries of the world.

Veejay Floresca and Jun Escario from the Philippines and Melinda Looi and Syaiful Baharim from Malaysia also presented their collections at the fashion event.
