Pakistani textile and clothing exports fell in the first seven months of fiscal 2011-12 ending January 2012. They also fell massively in the first month of 2012, when compared with a year earlier.
Total exports from the textile and garment industry reached US $6.936 billion from July 2011 to January 2012 against $7.436 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, down 7 percent.
Exports from the sector in the month of January 2012 too fell steeply to $982.418 million against $1.180 billion in January 2011, a massive decline of 17 percent, said an official data.
In the period July to January, cotton yarn export fell 22 percent year-on-year from $1.19 billion to $935.8 million, knitwear dipped 9 percent from $1.30 billion to $1.19 billion, bedwear declined 9 percent from $1.16 billion to $1.05 billion and towels descended 7 percent from $407 million to $379.76 million.
