Strong demand of majority of British wool types

The seventeenth British Wool Sale of the 2011/12 Season was held by the British Wool Marketing Board at Wool House and offered 1,995,978 kilos.

There was strong demand from the outset on the majority of types on offer, this produced a clearance of 80%.

Compared to the last time sold:
Pick and Super Hogs 2% dearer, other Pick and Supers Firm
Halfbred Hogs 1% dearer, other Halfbreds Fully Firm
Crosses up to 1.5% dearer
Radnors up to 1.5% dearer
Selected Welsh Fully Firm, other Welsh up to 2.5% cheaper
A large offering of Swaledale struggled to find a market with a small quantity of Grey selling 2.5% cheaper

A farmer run organisation, the British Wool Marketing Board (BWMB) was established in 1950 to operate a central marketing system for UK fleece wool, with the aim of achieving the best possible net return for producers.
