Textile exports from Japan grew by nine percent year-on-year in January 2012, showing a rise for the 12th consecutive month.
During the month, Japan's textile exports grew to US$ 642.34 million, according to a report prepared by the Japan Textiles Exporters Association relying on Ministry of Finance data.
Accounting for 72 percent of Japan's overall textile exports, exports to East Asia grew by 10 percent during the period, while those to West Asia and North America grew by 19 percent and 8 percent, respectively.
However, exports to Europe, accounting for a 12 percent share, witnessed a fall for second consecutive month and dropped by 3 percent.
Item-wise, yarn exports increased by 8 percent, while exports of textile fibres and fabrics grew by 18 percent each.
The exports of denim cotton fabrics increased by 22 percent to US$ 47.05 million in terms of value, and by 6 percent to 10 million square metres in terms of volume.
