Japan's fresh and upcoming designers were in the spotlight at the ongoing Japan Fashion Week 2012 in Tokyo.

In the past, Japan Fashion Weeks have seen display of creations by successful fashion designers like Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons. However, the shift in focus this time on emerging designers is also making the theme 'Future/Classic' look pretty appropriate for the event.

Fashion designers Yasutoshi Ezumi and YuAmatsu showcased their wearable womenswear collections at the Fashion Week. While Ezumi gained experience with Alexander McQueen after having studied fashion at Central Saint Martins College in London, YuAmatsu has worked as a pattern maker for Marc Jacobs and Jen Kao after moving to New York in 2004. YuAmatsu is currently designing for Degree Fahrenheit.

Another designer Atsushi Nakashima displayed a collection of dark, metallic pantsuits and belted dresses. He also presented futuristic costumes in vibrant red and other dark colours. Nakashima returned to Japan last year after working for few years as assistant to Jean Paul Gaultier in Paris.

In addition, the Fashion Week also saw some styles taken from Japanese culture including Harajuku street style, sweet Lolita and gothic Lolita.

There were also costumes created by designer Yuima Nakazato for Lady Gaga, Fergie and of the Black Eyed Peas, which won him Mercedes-Benz Presents award for innovative designers.
