Cheviot wool prices up – BWMB

The eighteenth British Wool Sale of the 2011/12 Season was held by the British Wool (BWMB) Marketing Board at Wool House and offered 1,991,740 kilos.

Following on from the previous strong sale, the demand today was mixed which resulted in a clearance of 48%.

Compared to the last time sold:

• Pick and Supers Firm

• Halfbreds Buyers Favour

• Cross Hogs Firm, other Crosses up to 1.5% cheaper

• Cheviot Cast Firm, other Cheviots up to 1.5% cheaper

• Radnors Sellers Favour

• Welsh 1 - 1.5% cheaper

• Swaledale 2 % cheaper

• Blackface ranged from 2% dearer - 2% cheaper

A farmer run organisation, the British Wool Marketing Board (BWMB) was established in 1950 to operate a central marketing system for UK fleece wool, with the aim of achieving the best possible net return for producers.
