The poor quality of domestic raw materials is one of the problems being faced by Kyrgyzstan's textile industry, according to Fatima Sadamkulova, Deputy Head of the Department of Light and Other Industries, Ministry of Economic Regulation.

Speaking at a conference on “Light industry development: Reducing informal employment in the industry”, the official said poor quality of local raw cotton and raw wool and the consequent dependence on imports are the main problems that besiege Kyrgyz textile industry.

In 2011, Kyrgyzstan produced 101,300 tons of raw cotton and 11,100 tons of raw wool, Ms. Fatima said.

She observed that Kyrgyzstan's wool production has remained stable at around 10,600-10,900 tons for the previous six years.

She said the Government wants to increase the raw cotton output, but still the figures are less than 118,100 tons produced in 2006.
