Guatemalan apparel sourcing show to focus on CAFTA region

The 21st edition of Apparel Sourcing Show slated to be held in Guatemala City from May 22 to May 24 this year would lay a special focus on how Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) region can further an integrated platform for sourcing apparels, textiles and accessories.

The annual sourcing event, being organized by the Guatemalan Textile and Apparel Industry Commission (VESTEX) to present the visitors with an idea regarding the CAFTA textile and apparel supply chain, is the sole sourcing show in the Central America-Dominican Republic (CAFTA-DR) region that brings the entire CAFTA suppliers' range under one roof.

Last year, the show attracted more than 4,500 participants from 14 countries.

This year it would be for the first time that the show would include shoes and accessories supply chain, in addition to its regular exhibits of textile mills, machinery and garments.

It would also have experts' discussion panels pondering on the issues concerning apparel sourcing at present and those to arise in future.

There would also be workshops on evolving trade policy, labour and regulatory compliance, technological advancements, new trends and market and commercial developments.

The CAFTA industry is known for the flexibility it offers in terms of volume and design, which is much sought after in the present day market scenario.

According to experts, while new consumers are cashing in on CAFTA's geographical proximity to the US market and benefits of the US trade preferences for the region, the old consumers affected by the global slowdown are reverting back to the thriving CAFTA market.
