InFashion 2012 show grows in stature

For instance, the international conference at the 'Fashion Theatre' saw hundreds of delegates listen with rapt attention to no less than102 speakers from India's most respected companies. These included such legendary names as Mr Kishore Biyani, the iconic head of Pantaloons Retail, Mr Rahul Mehta (President, CMAI), and Mr D.R.Mehta (President, Textile Association of India), besides many more representing big-league players like Raymond, Bombay Rayon, Birla Cellulose and Morarjee Textiles. All of them not only freely shared their irreplaceable wisdom & expertise, but also readily answered innumerable questions from the audience as well.

The conference's multiple sessions covered a wide variety of subjects and addressed crucial issues facing the industry. These ranged from the potential of economy textiles in upcountry markets, promoting traditional textile segments like sarees, the Government's National Textile Policy, incentives & taxation, HRD, the promise of denim, and increasing retail profitability.

In fact, the sheer diversity of subjects was intriguing. Even a unique motivational talk by Mr Devdutt Pattanaik figured on the agenda -- demonstrating how businesses can be successfully managed by using priceless Indian spiritual values! Or the 'Businessman ki Pathshala' presentation by Mr Jagdish Joshi, that stressed upon being positive & aggressive, while practicing proven skills in running of small & medium enterprises.

The regular sections like the 'Magic of Denim' (dedicated to denim textiles & garments), and 'Trend Theatre' (preview of the best products on display) were also featured and received excellent footfalls.

The 'InFashion Live' fashion show had the people applauding exciting designs & innovations for the coming seasons. India's leading brands & companies that showcased their creations included names like Ramvijay, Donear, True Value, Caralon, Chaitali Biplab, Sparsh Fab, Qmax Synthetics, Mandhana and Vishal Fashions.The ensembles covered everything from ethnic wear to contemporary chic.

The popular 'Images-FAITMA Honours', that acknowledge the industry's best trade performers, likewise witnessed a full house. The 30-odd awards were given away in three categories: Suiting & Shirting, Sarees & Dress Materials, and Readymade Garments.

Separate awards were bestowed upon Wholesalers and Retailers. Further, to ensure true national coverage, the best performers in the North, East, West and Central regions were recognized -- with dedicated awards for the South region also being distributed. In the RMG segment, winners were classified in the Manufacturer Buyer and Wholesale Buyer categories.

Exhibitors across the board voiced their unequivocal appreciation for the conduct and impact of InFashion 2012. They were happy with the number of highly focused, high quality visitors they received. Most registered very encouraging enquiries for further business. These included the sarees & dress materials players who were delighted with the results in their very first appearance at the show.

In fact, the participants' unanimous approval of the show is reflected in the fact that 80% of them have already pre-registered and indicated their stall size preferences for InFashion 2013!

The mood and vision of the event was summed up by the organizers themselves. On a final note, Mr Ramesh Poddar, President of FAITMA, said that with the speedy growth of India's retail market and consumerism augured well for an accompanying upward trend in the textiles & apparel sector.

He hinted at a four-fold growth in the industry in the next decade alone. Mr Amitabh Taneja, CMD of IMAGES Group, saluted the show as an initiative 'for the industry, by the industry' and said that it seeks to help grow the entire sector 'as one'. The continuing enhancement of creativity, technology & product quality pointed to sectoral growth with the accompanying benefits of greater employment opportunities as well.
