The Première Vision and Expofil shows, held last 14 to 16 February at the Parc d'Expositions of Paris-Nord Villepinte, demonstrated their vitality and powerful global appeal at a time when economic concerns and uncertainty are more than ever present in Europe. In three days, the two shows registered 43,278 visits, 73% from international visitors who came to Paris to discover the offer presented by the 713 exhibitors (11 more than February 2011).

And despite the pessimism prevalent in Europe and the slowdown in economic activity, seen particularly in the decline of the Italian (-12%), Belgian (-14%) contingents, there were 32,710 industry professionals from the European Union assured of finding the most complete and inspiring textile offer.

As Jamie Hadfield, womenswear designer of QRI Clothing, confirmed, «We have a very long list of people to see when we get to the show. Today, we have 17 suppliers to see. Première Vision is great because at home we could spend an entire day seeing five suppliers, whereas here we can see as many as we can fit in.... It's also really important for us to see the shops in Paris which is another handy thing about coming in Paris.”

Première Vision, a pool of creative and inspiring fashion proposals offering a high-quality and pertinent selection across different range levels, attracts an ever-growing number of visitors from so-called emerging markets, which continue to move upmarket and are on the hunt for quality collections to satisfy domestic demand.

Emerging markets are led by China (+ 48%), which almost doubled its previous year's figures. Meantime Brazil (+ 8.5%), just outside our top 15, and Turkey (+ 18%) registered record increases in attendance compared with last year and greatly contributed to the show's excitement and good business climate.

The two leading mature fashion markets, the U.S. (+ 4.2%) and Japan (+ 3%), confirmed their «resistance», and the fact that Première Vision is the essential venue for order-writers looking for new proposals to build collections that stand out.

Andrew Stevenson, womenswear fabric researcher and designer at Tom Ford International, noted that, 'Première Vision is a great place to search for new talent. You get an intense sense of industry here and the buzz is always positive...I love being able to meet with people here. Everyone comes so it makes for a great melting-pot for industry contacts. For a fabric designer, it's fantastic. Tops really'.

Finally, northern European textile markets like Sweden (+ 11.62%) and Switzerland (+ 8.4%), and Eurasian markets like Russia (+ 5.2%), rounded out the top 15 countries visiting Première Vision with very encouraging figures.

Premiere Vision is the seed I need every season to impregnate and give birth to my collection» said Hervé Pierre from Carolina Herrera.

Personalities also attended, such as John Malkovitch, actor, designer and frequent visitor to the show, who pointed out that, 'Première Vision is all about fabrics, details, and new products. Each season it's a real source of inspiration!'
