The visit by Frédéric Lefebvre, Secretary of State for Trade, Small and Medium Enterprises, Tourism, Services, Liberal Professions and Consumption, gave manufacturers an opportunity to present their projects and to call for the support measures necessary to safeguard their industry. Yet the panel discussion organised by UFIH and the GFF in collaboration with the UIT, and facilitated by Philippe Flamand (editor of Entreprise magazine), was the focal point for developing this dialogue between the business and political worlds

Alain Moreau, Co-President of the UFIH, highlighted the exhibition's key role in re-kindling awareness of and support for “Made in France” among the public and professionals – including both French and international customers.

The sector, he said, was resurgent, with 180 to 200 companies representing 10,000 employees. Lucien Devaux, President of the UIT, emphasised the aim for the sector as a whole to consider ways of combating the massive imports of clothing and textiles. And the sector, he reminded listeners, includes everything from training through to distribution.

He continued by applauding the Ministry of Industry's establishment of a €2 million guarantee fund, set up by the clothing industry development committee DÉFI, to underwrite the risks taken by fabric producers and clothing manufacturers and to support export initiatives for young designers.

Tony Herblot, President of Mode Grand Ouest, representing 86 companies and 6,000 jobs, testified to the dynamism of the companies and the new generation of entrepreneurs he represents. All the companies seeking new owners are currently finding purchasers, and the new generation of owners are looking to secure export customers. Members of this group work on average with five to six brands plus a few young designers who draw on the organisation's expertise to optimise the flow of customer orders.
