The textile industry of Spanish province of Aguascalientes will be restructured over the next two years, according to Salvador Vivanco, Professor at Universidad Autonoma de Aguascalientes (UAA), who is the main impetus behind the project.
Professor Vivanco said the textile sector was once considered the backbone for development of the province, but its contribution in economic growth is now declining.
He said the restructuring would be carried out with the help of funding from FOMIX.
During the two year period, effort will made to identify malfunctioning in about 70 local companies by defining their organizational, management and production goals.
The project will help employers to increase their savings by eliminating hidden costs and investing resources in new production techniques to improve both quality and quantity.
Professor Vivanco said several domestic companies produce good quality materials, but they need to enhance both their volume and quality in order to compete in open markets.
He mentioned there are 350 small and medium enterprises in the textile and apparel sector in the province, which are at risk of disappearing, owing to their limited production capacity and organizational ability.
He further said that around 97 percent of companies in the textile and apparel sector rely on manual or mechanical production, which are at a disadvantage compared to other companies whose production processes are systematized or even robotic.
