China second largest market for Italian textiles

China together with Hong Kong is the second largest market for Italian textile products destined for overseas countries.

This was revealed by Silvio Albini, President of the Italian textile fabric show - Milano Unica, which concluded in Beijing a few days ago.

It is learnt that, Milano Unica has for the first time exhibited in China as well as a foreign country.

Speaking at the expo, the Italian envoy to China said, “China is a very important market for many Italian companies. Italian textile exports reached €2.1 billion, of which, Italy's shipments to China accounted for 25 percent of all exports”.

“The output value of Italian textile industry, increased by 9 percent from €2.4 billion in 2010 to €2.6 billion in 2011", he added.

In the first ten months of 2011, exports of worsted wool textiles to China accounted for 47.4 percent, while carded wool textiles accounted for 16.6 percent.

Many well-known Italian clothing brands have established stores or marketing partners in China.

Zegna entered Chinese market in 1991 and today has over 75 stores in China. Among them, Asia's largest concept store Zegna store is in Shanghai Lippo Square.

Another Italian luxury goods group Prada has also said that the company plans to accelerate its pace of retail expansion in China in the next two years.
