Ethiopia should try to improve the quality of its textile and garment products to enhance its competitiveness in international market, according to the African Cotton and Textile Industries Federation (ACTIF).

Addressing a press conference held in connection with the textile exhibition “Origin Africa – Ethiopia 2012'', ACTIF Executive Director, Rajeev Arora, said Ethiopia has been elected to host the said exhibition due to its positive trade and investment policy.

The textile and garment sector in Ethiopia has registered significant growth over the past five years, and the sector can firmly establish itself in the world market by improving the product quality, he said.

Origin Africa expo would further benefit Ethiopian domestic textile and garment industry, he added.

Fasil Tadesse, President of the Ethiopian Textile and Garment Association, said the Government's persistent efforts have helped the country to achieve noteworthy development in the domestic garment and textile industry.

The exhibition would attract participants from 60 countries and it would help Ethiopian firms to closely associate with other countries and gain from knowledge transfer, he said.

The Ethiopian Government is geared up to generate considerable revenues from the textile and garment sector, he added.
