Japanese ethylene production capacity in 2011 fell very marginally, when compared with that in its previous year, data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) revealed.
Ethylene production capacity touched 7.210 million tons, down a marginal 0.1 percent from 7.216 million tons in 2010, METI said.
The annual production capacity is calculated on the assumption of each plant undergoing a scheduled maintenance in which the plant is shutdown each year.
Among the major ethylene producers in Japan are Mitsubishi Chemicals, with a nameplate capacity of 1.37 million tons per annum and Idemitsu Kosan with 1.101 million tons.
