Chinese textile & clothing exports slacken in May

Chinese textile and apparel exports grew from a year ago in May, but the pace has clearly slowed down. However, it rose splendidly from its prevous month.

Latest data released by Chinese Customs show that China's textile and apparel exports touched US $21.834 billion in May 2012, up 7.35 percent from May 2011 and also a rise of 16.14 percent from April 2012.

On a year on year basis, the growth rate fell 16.41 percentage points and gained by 13.81 percentage points from the previous month.

Of this, exports of textile yarn, fabrics and other textile products reached $9.227 billion, an increase of 7.05 percent year on year, and also up 9.76 percent from the previous month.

Shipments of apparel and clothing accessories came to $12.607 billion, a growth of 7.57 percent from May 2011 and also a rise of 21.29 percent compared with the previous month.

In the first five months of 2012, total textile and apparel exports achieved $90.642 billion, up 2.06 percent year on year. However, the growth rate slackened by 24.52 percentage points from the same period in 2011.
