Pakistan is likely to reap bumper cotton crop during the coming season.

According to the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA), majority of the cotton cultivation regions in the country have received early monsoon rains, which would be advantageous for standing cotton crop.

As rains have raised hope of higher-than-expected output during new season, it has led to a fall in the seed cotton prices.

Seed cotton price fell by Pk Rs. 100 and it now prevails at about Rs. 3,650-3,700 per 40 kg in Sindh. Similarly, the seed cotton price dipped by Rs. 100-150 to around Rs. 3,700-3,750 per 40 kg in Punjab.

Following good early cotton production, the Ministry of Farm and Livestock (Minfal) pegs the total cotton output for the new season at around 15-16 million bales.

It is too early to predict the exact quantity of cotton production during the new season, but it may remain 30-40 percent more than the usual output during a cotton season, KCA said.

It added that if the country succeeds in producing the estimated output, it would be able to export one million bales of cotton in the new season.
