Cotton exports from Egypt's Alexandria dip this season

The Alexandria region in Egypt exported cotton worth US$ 244.5 million during the ongoing season that began on September 2011, showing a decline of 46.3 percent compared to US$ 455.1 million worth of cotton exports achieved during the corresponding period of last season, according to the figures up to June 30, 2012, released by Alexandria Cotton Exporters’ Association (Alcotexa).
 
Cotton exports from Alexandira decreased in volume from 110,539 tons during September-June last season to 78,250 tons in same period this season, the report said.
 
During the week ended June 30, 2012, Alcotexa members sold 1,016 tons of cotton, which included 891 tons of Giza 86 grade cotton and 125 tons of Giza 88 cotton.
 
Known for its supreme quality, Egyptian cotton is used for the production of a wide range of value added products including bedding and pillow cases.
