"The Montréal Fashion and Design Festival is a major event through which all Montréalers can experience the creativity and ingenuity of our fashion designers and local retailers. The City is proud to support, once again, this celebration of fashion, which is yet another example of Montréal's innovative potential," says Mr. Deschamps.
The $62,500 from the Ville de Montréal will go toward promoting the 12th edition of the festival. These funds are part of the $140M budget earmarked by the Québec government to implement the Imagining - Building Montréal 2025 development strategy.
In addition to supporting Montréal's individual fashion events, the Ville de Montréal established the Montréal Fashion Bureau (MFB), which in 2009 received financial support from the Québec government totalling $2.4M over three years. The MFB promotes Montréal as a fashion design hub by capitalizing on local expertise, creative potential and innovative capacity. Its promotional efforts are carried out in part through the ModeMontreal.TV Web site, which features a blog and calendar covering the city's fashion events. The site also offers original videos providing glimpses into the design world's movers and shakers and their creative process, and a Fashion Map listing the best spots to discover local fashion.
