The much-anticipated textile park in Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district may not become a reality as the Central Government has not received any proposal for the same from the state government, Yavatmal MP Hansraj Ahir has said.

Mr. Ahir said the Vidarbha region contributes a lion’s share in the state’s cotton production and the setting up of a textile park would be a boon to cotton growers in Yavatmal district.

The project approval committee headed by Union Textiles and Commerce Minister Anand Sharma had sanctioned Rs. 1.1 billion for establishing six textile parks in Maharashtra. However, no textile park was set up in Vidarbha region of the state, he informed.

In October last year, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had said that three-fourths of cotton produced in Yavatmal was transported to other parts of the country, due to lack of textile mills in the region.

The MP said he would take up the issue of setting up a textile park in Yavatmal with the Chief Minster through the district collector.
