Exports of cotton yarn from Pakistan have risen while its consumption by domestic value added textile sector has declined.

As per data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the country’s cotton yarn exports soared by 40.43 percent year-on-year to US$ 172.2 million in July 2012.

This was in contrast with a 2.2 percent year-on-year fall in Pakistan’s overall textile exports during the same month. It was due to a drop in exports of raw cotton, cotton fabric, knitwear and bedwear.

Speaking to fibre2fashion, Mr. Mohsin Aziz, Chairman, All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) & CEO, A.J. Textile Mills Ltd., said, “The exports of cotton yarn from Pakistan have increased considerably in July.”

Explaining the reason for jump in cotton yarn exports, he says, “The consumption of cotton yarn by the value added textile sector would have reduced and because of that reason the exports would have increased.”
