Smart fabric – The new age burglar alarm

Burglar alarms may now become a thing of past as the modern age researchers have developed a new smart anti-theft system incorporated fabric, which alerts people whenever an intrusion takes place in their surroundings.

The woven smart fabric, which could be laid on the roof rafters or can be integrated in concrete and block work walls, comes with a high-alert, anti-burglary system that can trigger an alarm.

The new age fabric is incorporated with a mesh of conductive threads and a processor module which detects emitted warning signals whenever the fabric is cut.

Apart from providing protection against burglary and theft, the fabric also enables people to identify the exact location of break-in and is comparatively cheaper than other burglary detection systems.

Developed by the researchers of the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration IZM in Berlin, in collaboration with the Technischen Universität Berlin and ETTLIN Spinnerei und Weberei Produktions GmbH & Co, the innocuous looking fabric can be used as an invisible means of protection for residential buildings, jewellery shops, banks and museums.
