The next generation of Western Australian fashion talent will be showcasing their designs at the forthcoming Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) Student Runway on Sunday 23 September at Fashion Paramount.

The Student Runway event will feature 60 of Western Australia’s top fashion design students from Curtin University, Central Institute of Technology, Polytechnic West, Challenger Institute of Technology, Edith Cowan University and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

All six institutions nominated five students in each of the following categories; ready-to-wear women’s, ready-to-wear men’s, eco-design, contemporary evening-wear and costume couture.

An industry judging panel consisting of stylist Teagan Sewell, designer Lisa Chau, Emma Bergmeier from All of the Above Creative and Tu Boutique owner Ann nie Chong, will select the winning entries across the five different categories.

PFF Director, Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan said she is looking forward to seeing this year’s group of students present.

“Student Runway offers a wonderful opportunity to WA’s aspiring fashion designers and this year the Liz Davenport Student Runway Scholarship means the top student will have a once in a lifetime opportunity with one of WA’s most influential and successful designers,” Ms Harvey-Hanrahan said.

The top student will win a scholarship to the value of $2,000 provided by much-loved and esteemed WA designer, Liz Davenport. 2012 will be the first year for the Liz Davenport Student Runway Scholarship. The lucky scholarship winner will also receive a month long mentorship at Liz’s studio in 2013 and each individual category winner will receive a $500 voucher and a sewing machine from Spotlight.

A prelude to this year’s event will be the debut collection from the 2011 Carton designers, Samuel Donaldson, Jessica Hogg and Nicole Marrington who have been designing their garments in The Carton studio at Carillon City.

The winners will be announced at Student Runway being held at Fashion Paramount, Hackett Hall, Western Australian Museum on Sunday 23 September at 6:30pm.
