Bolivian state-run oil company YPFB has engaged Italy’s Tecnimont to carry out final-level feasibility studies of engineering for setting up ethylene and polyethylene plants in southern Bolivia.

The petrochemical complex is proposed to be set up in Gran Chaco, a province located in the southern region of Tarija in Bolivia. It is expected to facilitate an annual production of 600,000 metric tons of polyethylene while using 756,000 tons of ethane, according to Latin American Herald Tribune.

YPFB Chief Carlos Villegas inked a deal with Tecnimont General Manager for Latin America, Angelo Coppacchioli for the proposed study, which would include various aspects of the project like geotechnical, technological, topographical, hydrological, market and raw materials, according to a statement from YPFB.

The study would present a detailed analysis of the key technical and economic areas of the project, and would thus enable the Bolivian firm to make calculated decisions to proceed with the project.

Tecnimont would submit its study involving a cost of US$ 3.8 million to YPFB during first half of next year.
