China's CPL production capacity doubles in one year

Caprolactam (CPL) production capacity of China has nearly doubled during the last one year.
In 2011, China had CPL production capacity of 590,000 tons, but the capacity had already increased to 1.115 million tons at the beginning of this month. Moreover, caprolactam plants with production capacity of 100,000 tons are likely to go operational soon.
The sharp increase in CPL production capacity during the last one year has changed the supply and demand situation in China, and this has resulted in a decline in caprolactam price from about 21,800 yuan/ton at the beginning of the year to about 17,000 yuan/ton at present, a dip of nearly 22 percent.
Accordingly, the profit margins of caprolactam manufacturers in China have declined during the past one year.
Industry analysts expect global caprolactam production to exceed demand soon, as China is likely to add another 700,000 tons of CPL production capacity by the end of 2013.
