China's textile consumer group undergoing change

The consumer group of Chinese textiles is undergoing a significant change in recent times.
 
In the first half of this year, the performance of the Chinese textile industry rebounded strongly with exports registering a growth of around 10 percent year-on-year, outperforming other sectors.
 
However, the main reason for the rapid export growth was the low base of first six months of 2012.
 
There is no doubt that Chinese textile enterprises still enjoy competitive advantage and its dominance in global trade is difficult to shake in the short-term.
 
But for nearly three years, China’s share in overall European textile and apparel imports has remained stable at around 23 percent.
 
The demand for Chinese textiles is slowly decreasing in the European and the US markets, while the domestic market and the emerging countries are becoming major consumers. Thus, China’s textile consumer group is undergoing a significant change.
