Internationally-renowned French fashion makers of yesteryears have continued to play a valuable source of inspiration for young designers till date. With their unique sensibilities, these design maestros of yore have created timeless pieces which are relevant even in today’s fashion circles.

An exhibition to pay homage to the celebrated French fashion houses, founded by design messiahs like Christian Dior, Pierre Balmain and Yves Saint Laurent, is going on at the Mint Museum Randolph, Charlotte, North Carolina.

Scheduled to run through January 12, 2014, the event displays an exquisite collection of nearly 30 haute couture ensembles, created by the talented founders, who not only redefined but also revolutionised the pre-conceived notion of women’s fashion in those days.

Curated by the Mint Museum’s Director of Fine Arts Charles Mo, the awe-inspiring display of exhibits have been sourced from various auction events, museums and elite fashion collectors of Charlotte.

The exquisite outfits include a Pierre Balmain-designed silk, velvet, faille and brocade mixed cocktail dress (made in 1960), a belted tulle and silk chiffon dress by Dior and a silk floral brocade floor-length black gown, created by Yves Saint Laurent.
