Ivory Coast's Bouake hosts workshop for cotton growers

The city of Bouake in the Western African country of Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) hosted a workshop to create awareness regarding use of pesticides for the production of cotton in the region.
 
The workshop titled ‘Use of pesticides and sustainability of cotton production in Côte d'Ivoire’ was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of Ivory Coast (MINAGRI) and Board of Authority for Regulation of Cotton and Cashew (ARECA) under the Competitive African Cotton Initiative (COMPACI) program, abidjan.net reports.
 
The workshop’s main objective was to create awareness among cotton producers in the region towards rational use of pesticides for preservation of environment and reduction of risks towards users.
 
The event brought together participants including representatives from public administrative organizations, cotton manufacturers and producers, pharmaceutical companies, and agricultural organizations.
 
The organizers of the workshop held presentations on various topics including: ‘Dangers of user exposure to pesticides and its environmental impacts’, ‘The issue of adoption of innovative methods in the struggle against cotton pests’, and ‘Provisions adopted by Ivory Coast for control of sales of pesticides.’
