Chic, sophisticated, urban looks that resonate with the ultra-trendy street styles of Manhattan kicked off the fifth day of ongoing Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York.

The 22-year-old Huntington native Mathieu Mirano opened the day with his very luxe city-like Spring/Summer 2014 collection, which featured cigarette pants, bustier with python motifs, peplum tops, sheer dresses and paper thin laminated white suits.

Next in the line-up was Venezuelan-born 74-year-old design veteran Carolina Herrera, who conjured up optical illusions through her organza panel and overlay infused creations. Inspired from the illusionary Kinetic Art movement, the line featured multidimensional patterns with black-and-white stripes and geometric prints.

Cool, breezy Californian atmosphere was recreated on the sand, surf and sunny catwalk of American clothier Tommy Hilfiger. Made from neoprene, bonded leather, silk and cotton, the ensembles include boxer shorts, mini-dresses, zip skirts, scuba knits, Hawaiian print shirts and skinny blue denims.

New York-based designer Donna Karan presented the 1970’s style Urban Culture-themed collection on the same day of the event. Replete with beaded embroidery, the line showcased voluminous trenchcoats, draped gowns, silk shirts, caftan blouses, and jackets with oversized lapels and suede fringes.
