More than 160 traditional Chinese couture creations, created by nearly 70 designers, were featured at the recently concluded fourth edition of Global Han Couture Design Competition.

Produced by the New Tang Dynasty Television, the contest was organized with a primary aim to revive the ancient Hanfu costume which is named after the most prominent Chinese ethnic majority Han.

Other than the traditional Hanfu costumes, the event also showcased several attires that were akin to the apparels worn during the rule of Tang, Song and Ming dynasties.

Su Chih Chang, a contestant from Taiwan, bagged the prestigious Gold Award in the competition for her Song Dynasty scholar ensemble. Teamed up with the famous square-topped Dongpo hat, the prize winning outfit featured a shimmering wheat-coloured coat decorated with iridescent green and red trims.

Hosted by the just concluded Couture Fashion Week in New York, the event was attended by the Academy award-winning theatrical costume designer Ann Roth.
