Bolivian President Evo Morales has announced construction of the very first factory for processing alpaca and Llama wool in the city of El Alto, as one of the measures to promote industrialization in the country.

The Bolivian President said that industry leaders in the country have demanded a factory for processing of alpaca and Llama wool, reports Bolivian newspaper Pagina Siete.

The factory would be constructed in the Kallutaca Industrial Park in the city of El Alto.

The President explained the need for the construction of the factory stating that alpaca and Llama wool from the country is currently being exported to Peru for processing, and with the setting up of the new factory the wool would be processed in the country itself.

Adding value to the alpaca wool means improving the living conditions of the peasants residing in the highlands, the President added.

In Bolivia, there are 400,000 alpacas in total, and breeding camels for fiber is one of the main economic activities of half a million peasants residing in the highlands of the country.
