The city of Milan in Italy, with the support of its textile operators, presented the 4th edition of Milano Unica China to be held in Shanghai from October 21 to 24, 2013, in collaboration with Shanghai Intertextile Apparel Fabrics fair.

According to a statement issued by the City of Milan, the presentation was unveiled at the Palazzo Marino by the councilor of the Municipality of Milan Fashion Christina Tajani and the president of Milano Unica Silvio Albini. The 4th edition of the fair would have nearly 133 Italian apparel and textile companies participating, which is higher than last year’s participation of 124 firms.

Christina Tajani, councilor for the Municipality of Milan Fashion, said the city is getting closer to the operators of the entire textile and fashion industry in the world, confirming that the collaboration with the Chinese industry, which began a few months ago, is now becoming a new way to present the outside world with best of Italian production, and Milan is inextricably synonymous with fashion, creativity and quality.

Despite international competition from other cities, Milan has maintained its standards in quality of its textiles and apparel, and the leaders of the Milan fashion sector are increasingly engaged in activities for fostering cooperation between public sector operators to enhance the competitiveness of the industry.

Silvio Albini, Milano Unica president, said the exports of textiles from Italy to China have declined due to the slowdown of the Chinese economy, but however, Hong Kong remains to be the second most important market for Italian exports.

The quality of service offered by Italian producers is the basis for the demand of Italian products in the Chinese market, moreover the Italian taste, style and fashion have been increasingly gaining interest among Chinese consumers, he added.

Mr. Albini said that China is a market which constantly evolves, where the ‘new’ consumers are increasingly attentive to ‘old’ values and ask for excellence and consistency in the supply chain be it raw materials, production process, exclusivity of the product as well as service. In other words, the Chinese consumers, like Russians, Japanese, and Turks want excellence, and understand the true value of the real ‘Made in Italy’.

The 4th edition of Milano Unica China would be held as a part of the Shanghai Intertextile fair and would feature apparel firms showcasing the Fall/Winter 2014-15 collections.
