During the VIII Cotton and Textile Fair, which was held in 2012, contracts were concluded for the purchase of over 670,000 tons of Uzbek cotton fiber, whereas the contracts for the purchase of export production of Uzbekistan's textile enterprises were concluded at a sum exceeding US$ 600 million.

According to a statement issued by the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the demand for cotton and textiles, made in the country is very high in the world market, and this was reflected during the international conference which was held on the opening day of the two-day fair.

During the international conference many foreign participants of the fair from all around the world expressed great interest in expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation with Uzbekistan, the statement added.

According to the statement, the country is one of the world's largest producers and exporters of cotton fiber, and the policy of the nation in this area is characterized by maintaining stable volumes of cotton growing while increasing the volume of fiber production and its quality characteristics, breeding high yielding varieties and the use of most advanced agricultural technologies, as well as complete modernization of the country’s ginning industry.

At the fair, the expansion of mechanized cotton harvesting, which has been initiated in the country was the center of attention. The modernized cotton pickers MX-1, 8, whose production is underway in the Open Joint Stock Company ‘Tashkent Tractor Plant’ were also presented during the fair.
