Punk-inspired menswear line opens Tokyo FW Day-5

South Korean-born designer Bajowoo, behind the brand 99%IS, opened the fifth day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo with his punk-inspired menswear collection.

Decorated with chunky metal embellishments, the heavy on leather line featured motorcycle jackets, slim cropped trousers, pants with apron like attachment stitched around the hips, boxy T-shirts and relaxed-cut coats in the classy combination of ageless black and white.

‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on the earth peace, goodwill toward men’- the famous Biblical verse Luke 2:14 played inspiration behind designer Zin Kato’s new Spring/Summer 2014 women’s collection replete with shorts, cropped jackets and tops teamed with white flowery lace veils.

Fashion brand Theatre Products, by designer duo Akira Takeuchi and Miwa Fujiwara, took inspiration from the country club culture of the Roaring Twenties for their latest collection. Made using materials like cotton, organdie and stretchy georgette, the ivory, beige, blush and black coloured sophisticated dresses and feminine tops were decorated with floral jacquard patterns.

Clothing label Facetasm brought down the curtains on the penultimate day of the event with its part 80s punk meets 90s grunge meets The Hunger Games-inspired range for both men and women. Infused with electrifying shades, prints and dynamic textures, the non-conservative Montage-themed line was made from tweed, tartan, leather and sheer panels.

Designed under the artistic guidance of Hiromichi Ochial, the cartoon image accentuated collection included separates like peplums, boleros, slips, kilts, curve hugging ladies jackets with cobalt and navy blue shoulders, and black varsity-style trench coats.
