Java Island has a plenty of stories from which many designers have an inspiration, including three Muslim fashion designers of D’Java show: Errin Ugaru, Kursien Karzai and Rya Baraba. The three of them took the tales of West Java, Central Java and East Java as their design backgrounds for the modern ready-to-wear collection.

Errin Ugaru opened the show with “Dames Uit Preanger”. The clothes had influence from the Dutch colonization in Priangan, seen in the strong army accents. However, the collection still had a feminine look due to the soft color palettes like white, pink, peach, and baby blue.

Errin intended to point out the beauty and elegance of Priangan and Dutch young women (mojang Priangan and noni Belanda). Meanwhile, the materials used were linen and brocade with contemporary accent of copper and brass pieces.

The show continued with Zhao by Kursien Karzai. Kursien who was inspired by the nature and people of Dieng Plateau created a combination of lurik batik with modern materials like lace and chiffon.

One thing stood out from this sequence was the color harmony throughout the collection. It was because Kursien wanted to show the harmony of the people of Dieng through the colors. A modern taste was also apparent in the edgy cutting of the dresses and capes. Other pieces showed the drapery design and floral prints application.

Rya Baraba closed the show with “Ebelik Bernah”. The Madura-inspired collection was meant to show its diverse culture through the bold colors. Red, yellow, purple and orange gave a color variation to the palazzo pants, long jackets and dresses. The Madura culture was also seen in the accessories like whip used in Karapan Sapi or bull race.
